Inspiration

My studio looks likes this -

DCF 1.0

It’ll be nice when it’s done but that will be a while, life has a way of rearranging my plans. Since I can’t actually work on projects I can think about all the things to do when the decorating is finished. This led me to wonder about the things that spark creativity, here are a few things I find inspiring.

The Red Book

DCF 1.0

I collect pictures from magazines and put them in sheet protectors in binders – this isn’t the original red binder, that fell apart years ago, but some of the items in this book are almost thirty years old. This beautiful picture of cherries inspired:

“Cherries” beaded medicine bag

A picture of a magician’s assistant costume from the 1920’s

DCF 1.0

with scarabs in gold and black inspired:

“Magic” beaded medicine bag

DCF 1.0

Black cats and gold scarabs on the strap, a flap of gold and black and lots of fringe!

This beautiful book on a favorite subject -

DCF 1.0

is filled with pictures of fantastic costumes

like this, which inspired:

“Bee Happy” beaded medicine bag

A close up shows the texture of the cylinder beads used in this project – the bead weaving feels like the skin of a glass lizard.

What inspires you? Pictures filled with colour? The beauty of a sunset? Music? Interesting old junque? There’s so much inspiration and beauty all around and it’s such a joy to take it in!

Love that paint color! You are so so organized with your red book. I wish my tear sheets were all together like yours.
